Meet the Author and Artist
Vashti Summervill – Educator, PCI ® Certified Parent Coach, Therapeutic Consultant, Musician
Vashti considers it her life’s work to build community and connection. She is a mom, apassionate educator, and a musician. She also has firsthand experience parentingteens and young adults through very difficult times. She has embarked on a journey tocombine her education and her lived experience to help support other parents,especially those struggling in their relationship with”tweens,” teens, and young adults.She has a full parent coaching and therapeutic consulting practice. Sheregularly toursand evaluates therapeutic programs for adolescents and young adults so she can assistparents in finding the right resources for their children.Music continues to play a big role in her life. She has an extensive background inperformance as well as teaching/directing. She continues to write music and performregularly. She released her debut album,Put My Love In a Picture, in September of2022.Vashti is a voracious life-long learner. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Music fromColorado Mesa University in Grand Junction, Colorado and a Master’s of Music/VocalPerformance from Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington. Inaddition to receiving her Parent Coaching Certification from the Parent CoachingInstitute, she is trained in Youth Mental Health First Aid, ASIST (Applied SuicideIntervention Skills Training), and is a QPR Instructor (Suicide Prevention GatekeeperTraining). Vashti holds an Elementary Teaching Certificate with a K-12 MusicEndorsement. Wendy Blickenstaff – Artist
Wendy is an award-winning community-building artist. Examples of herinstallation work can be found archived online atIdaho Matterson Boise State PublicRadio, and on theCreators Makers, and Doersblog of the City of Boise Department ofArts and History. Wendy owns Blick-Studios, an art studio specializing in image designand linoleum block printing. She is also an activity therapist at Cottonwood CreekBehavior Hospital. Her images are used in both mental health curriculum as well as herprivate art practice which focuses on the health of communities.Through years of collaboration and work with local community outreach programs,Wendy has created a critical mass of images designed to tell our society’s mental healthstory. Her current body of work contains over a hundred narrative images that havebeen shared in various venues from churches and homeless shelters to social justiceprograms and hospitals.Wendy holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in printmaking from Boise State Universityand a Bachelor Degree in Studio Art from California State University, Fullerton.Wendy is a recipient of a COVID Cultural Commissioning Fund grant and part of theCity of Boise’s Department of Arts and History’s Covid Community Collection as well asan active board member of Boise Open Studios Collective Organization.As a Boise, Idaho based artist she has spent most of her life working to understand andhelp those in her community through art. Her curiosity, and love of novelty and diversity,have inspired her to travel and live in different countries and states. Wendy is happilymarried and has two loving daughters, a dog, and an aquatic garden with bluegill andfrogs in residency. You can find her most Saturdays hiking the Boise foothills or in herstudio. She loves sharing her studio with other artists, and the space is often filled withartists for events and work sessions.
